Why Duo Queue Isn't a Great Idea
In an update today on the Blizzard forums, Overwatch developer Scott Mercer posted that the ranked queues in Season 16 of Overwatch will be restricted to solo and duo queuing only. Overwatch ranked queues have always been unlocked for parties of almost any size. You have always been able to queue up with one, two, five, or however many friends that you want. This, unfortunately, makes the ranked queue times absolutely ridiculous, sometimes going as high as minutes long.
The changes in Season 16 will only affect the Grand Master ranked players, for now. Blizzard claims that there are so few players in the Grand Master rank that matchmaking is a bit broken at that high of play. It gets even more difficult to matchmake if Grand Master players queue up in larger groups. Blizzard has been on the prowl for any and all information regarding the public perception and feedback on their current ranked matchmaking and competitive environment.
With so much focus on the Overwatch League, plenty of players feel like the general public gets forgotten when it comes to game tweaks and hero balancing. Things like the in-game matchmaking and ranking systems are solely for the public though, and those changes are for everyone. Mercer writes in his forum post that they hope this change to Grand Master queues will create better quality matches for everyone at that rank.
In an effort to have higher quality and more fun matches for everyone, Overwatch actively tries to place parties of similar sizes together to create fair matches. For the vast majority of players this feature of the matchmaking system works reasonably well. For our Grandmaster players, making fair matches is always more difficult simply because there are fewer players of their skill level to place together. We believe this change will help create better quality matches for all Grandmaster players.
Thank you and please continue to share your feedback about Competitive Play! Most comments on the forum post seem very positive. Folks at the Grand Master ranks have been having a hard time in ranked play for a while with the abuse of three stacks and larger queue groups. So the restriction seems to be very welcomed across the board.
The most positive responses do bring up the idea of Blizzard finally separating team queues and solo queues in ranked play, which would not be a horrible idea overall. Do you think this might be something that could benefit other ranks? Let us know in the comments! Overwatch ranked Season 16 is set to start on May 1st, Toggle navigation. Wyatt Fossett , April 29, 6: In an attempt to smooth out the really long queue times at Grand Master rank, Blizzard will begin restricting party sizes to two or fewer members.

I've heard a number of times people saying that because you theoretically get an advantage from duo queuing, the enemy team is a bit higher. Quickly find Duo Partners, Flex Teams and Clash Teams on LolDuo. Raise your Skill.

When Riot announced last year that they would be implementing positional matchmaking into the League of Legends ranked queues in Season 9, they were met with a mix of skepticism and couched optimism. While many immediately saw flaws and possible exploits that such a system could offer, others hoped that it would be a solution to the complaints of poor matchmaking that plagued Season 8. Instead, we got the worst of both worlds. This season, there have been cries from pro players, high elo players, and coaches alike to do away with positional matchmaking and reset the ranked ladder. While some of these complaints and problems are due to problems with the early season LP gains which Riot has acknowledged , there are still a ton of valid complaints against the positional matchmaking system. Many high-elo and pro players have pointed out that some players have been using this system to easily boost teammates or duo partners by swapping lanes. Essentially, players are abusing the match-making system to get matched against players in their main role who are much lower, MMR-wise, than they are to get easy LP. Duo Queue 2. Worse yet, if a player performs badly, there is the possibility that the player can go into another role, go AFK or keep feeding, without consequence. This is because the system will detect register your position based on the lane where you spend most of the time in your early game, and give you LP and MMR losses for that lane.

League of Legends: the problems of (and solutions to) positional matchmaking
Progress through the tiers, work your way up the leaderboards, and make a name for yourself in the competitive community. You can start your ranked grind right now during our preseason. All you need to do is join one of our Discords, link your Fortnite account, and queue up for a ranked solo match any region. Our match tracking technology will handle updating your ELO based on your match performance. After 10 placement matches you'll be given a rank based on your current ELO. Matches need at least FIVE linked players in order to be tracked. The higher you climb through the ranks, the more matchmaking channels you unlock. We have the tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Master. Players are able to queue up for their tier, or up to two tiers under it.
In the ranked flex queue, you can team up with any number of players--or go it alone--and expect to play with groups of players focused on teamplay. Most players will be able to queue with players within one tier of their rank. These restrictions get tighter the higher you go:. Everyone starts off each new ranked season without a rank. The first ten games you play in each queue will place you in a tier and division for that queue. Where you land is based on the outcome of these games, the difficulty of the opponents you faced in these games, and your rank from the previous season and preseason. You can read more about preseason here.

Not easy to win when neither of you are allowed to play your main roles I think you shouldn't play ranked if you can only play one role. You can't always get what you want, it might suck but you'll always have kids locking in. That is one of the biggest problems, people who don't want to play different roles. Every role is important for the team an in some way fun to play. If only people could see that. That's definitely true Caitlin, I think it comes down to being able to play more than one role at the Elo that they're currently at though, that's the hard part. Most players "can" play all the roles, but just not equally well, which isn't all that bad.
League system is a ranking system that matches players of a similar skill level to play with and against each other. Players within each division are ranked using a system of points called League Points LP. A season lasts almost a year, but is divided into three splits lasting three months. Players earn points for the split by winning games, which credit towards rewards at the end of the split. Each division features a base armor, which then gets upgraded based on splits, resulting in a lot of different combinations.
Posted by: The highest 10 people queueing are 8 people around and 2 people around If the game was solo queue only a balanced match could be created. Instead, if the two people around are both duo queued together then it is impossible to create a mathematically fair match up, so the result will be a one sided boring game. In addition the duo queue will likely be playing classes that compliment each other. The result: Everyone quits or gets toxic because the games are all blow outs.CS:GO - Overpass - Full Matchmaking - Duo Queue - Predicted Noscope - 720p
