Skip to main content. Air Conditioner No Window. In Stock. List Price: You Save: I bought the AC last week after being hit with 90F weather in Southern California and because my 2nd floor bedroom facing the sun during the day makes sleeping at night unbearable. AC arrived on time and assembling it was very easy.
The only part that needed extra work was the window kit because it was too small for my window even after the extension. So, I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of wood that they cut to my measurements, which in my case was 12" in length. I also bought weather stripping to ensure there would be no gaps in installation. Add to cart. In stock. Ruva Los Angeles, CA. I feel compelled to leave a review for this machine, simply because the reviews are so mixed.
This unit does exactly what it says. The room is a small corner office with two large windows facing south and west. The office gets considerable sunlight throughout the day, and heats up about five to ten degrees warmer than the rest of my unit on average. This little unit easily brings the temperature down about five degrees and makes the room much more pleasant to work in.
I'm watching humidity and temp in the room, and the unit will Fast easy setup for IQ over 60; doesn't make too much noise, unless you're used to living in the forest atop a great mountain in eternal winter; blows cold air forcefully; keeps my sq ft, 11 ft ceiling Brooklyn studio at in 90 degree heat. Looks great, seals the deal on all my dates, getting engaged as a result of this unit. Buy it, stick the hose in the window, plug it in, turn it on, and recreate the Little Ice Age while you await armageddon.
Ok so I read a ton of reviews and agree it is a tad loud BUT it is definitely doing what it's supposed to do. I just plugged this thing in and my room was 80 Degrees- it's been maybe 10 minutes and it's already down to 74 degrees and I've got it running on low. The high and low setting don't have a huge noise difference. To give people an idea of how loud it is- it's definitely quieter than my box fan but not as loud as a hair dryer. It's definitely louder than a window air conditioner unit which is understandable being that the whole unit resides indoors.
The sound reminds me of an older hotel air conditioner so it's totally tolerable but I'm pretty noise sensitive so I'm likely going to to turn it off at bedtime. I'm in Colorado where it's dry so I don't I am giving it four stars because it does a pretty good job of cooling the two spaces in which I have used it. One space is about sf with high ceilings.
The other space is a larger open area. On the down side, the window insert strikes me as poorly designed. It did not work very well in my windows. Moreover, the insert if used according to their instructions does not appear to be particularly "portable". I ended framing the main insert piece in wood and added a piece that allows me to tighten it against the window with thumb screws. My reframed piece is far more portable and air tight.
It is a bit awkward moving the air conditioner between floors, so if you plan on using it in multiple rooms, you probably want them on the same floor. Easy to install. Blows cold. I have a little sqft shed turned into a bedroom and it works like a charm. Came timely and in great shape. Bought this 3 weeks ago, and am very happy with it. The build is very solid, this is not a piece of junk. It is easy to use: Plug in the AC cord, put it near an open window or door, turn the cool dial to on, the speed from , 1 works fine for me , and swing to on or off, on means the cooled air is blown around, not just straight ahead.
Water is poured in through a door on the top. It has a garden hose nozzle that can be used to refill it without carrying pitchers of water back and forth. The device itself is big, about 34 inches tall, 24 inches wide, and 15 inches deep. Without water, it isn't very heavy, and does have caster Currently unavailable. Is quiet and efficient making our guest bedroom upstairs comfortable even in the most humid hot June weather. Before we had this unit, this bedroom was terrible during the day and even late into the evening in just mildly warm weather.
Now it's just great. Adult guests had no problem with either heat or noise of operation. Have owned this unit for two months now and am most happy with it. See All Buying Options. Originally posted this as a 5 star review. Unfortunately this broke after 2 years of use. I liked it up until that point and I think I got my money out of it but I can no longer give it 5 stars since I would expect it to a last a bit longer.
I noticed all the bad reviews on evaporative coolers but having lived in a dry climate most of my life Colorado , I can tell you this is a high quality EC and any decent EC will work fine if you follow a couple of rules. Please understand these are coming from people in non-humid climates or people who are in dry climates and don't understand how these work differently than ACs.
TIP 1: Leave two windows cracked open for cross ventilation - This would be stupid if we were talking about AC's but if a EC is left We were able to run this unit for two months in Florida during variable weather ranging from the 40s at night to the upper 80s during the day, and it performed flawlessly. We are very pleased with our purchase. I was having really good luck with this cooling unit. Very cold and efficiently cools the room down.
It needs to be drained of water periodically--right now it has the "full" indicator light and it won't turn on, and when I drain the water almost nothing comes out even though I tipped it slightly as per the manual. Hopefully they can fix it. Until now it's been great. I figured it out, there are two drainage nozzles.
One's on the bottom of the unit. Using to cool my finished basement, have it directly vented out the side of the house using a open fresh air vent and 6" insulated flexible duct, works fantastic. Keeps the room comfortable and dry, taking out all of the humidity. Actually made the room too cold, but will see how well it does during the dog days of summer, but so far very impressed with its ability to cool down the room. Will certainly post an update during the summer months.
Update - Just had a mini heatwave on the east cost, mid 90's for three days, the room temperature was great, even cold with no humidity, room size 20' x 20'. Castro Glendale, CA. Very, very convenient that you don't have to have to be emptying out any water buckets and what not. Installation was very easy and straight forward. One downfall is that I've had a hard time dropping temperatures to about I don't really want to blame the unit because i think the room construction be also be playing a part in it.
However, since install date about 12 months now it's done a great job at keeping temps steady on 75 as set. Little issues I've noticed: Pretty good unit for the price. Only 2 minor disappointments I thought that it had a drip container that was removable, but it does not. You have to remove a plug and tip the unit to drain it no big deal. Also, the window exhaust kit listed as adjustable and it is , but beware if you have smaller windows.
My windows are To make it work for me, I had to saw the plate down to the proper width of my window. I mention this only because there is no mention to the window plate width in the description anywhere neither on Amazon nor Costway sites. Just a mention for those who have small windows! Despite those minor complaints, it's a great unit. Cools very well in very humid climate. Easy to operate" - by Frank. Cools a hugh area with high ceilings!!!! Great unit; hope it keeps it up.
